Our Work

At Maccabeus Foundation, we are laying the groundwork for a transformative approach to mental health and addiction recovery in Zambia โ€” one rooted in faith, guided by science, and built with community. Our work spans five interconnected pillars:

๐Ÿ”น Legal and Policy Engagement

We collaborate with regulators, lawmakers, and legal experts to establish a compliant, ethical framework for the use of alternative therapies. Through advocacy, public education, and policy dialogue, we aim to shift laws and perceptions toward compassionate, evidence-based solutions.

๐Ÿ”น Harm Reduction & Prevention

We recognize that healing begins long before treatment โ€” and often in small, courageous steps. Thatโ€™s why we promote harm reduction and prevention strategies that meet people where they are, reduce risk, and build trust over time. Through community education, early intervention, and non-judgmental support, we help individuals make safer choices and find pathways to restoration. Our model includes culturally relevant prevention messaging, faith-informed resources, and peer-based outreach โ€” all rooted in dignity, compassion, and hope.

๐Ÿ”น Economic Empowerment & Reintegration

True healing extends beyond clinical care โ€” it must include purpose, dignity, and the ability to build a life. We support individuals emerging from trauma and addiction with pathways to sustainable livelihoods that reinforce long-term recovery. This includes skills development in areas such as digital work, wellness services, and climate-smart enterprise. By integrating economic empowerment with emotional restoration, we reduce relapse risks and equip people to rebuild their futures with confidence, resilience, and hope.

๐Ÿ”น Capacity and Infrastructure Development

We are equipping Zambian clinicians and health professionals with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to safely deliver messaging (and eventually treatmet) on alternative therapies. This includes training, ethical protocols, and partnerships to support the cultivation of therapeutic plants and the development of future treatment centres.

๐Ÿ”น Research, Learning & Thought Leadership

We partner with local and global institutions to conduct rigorous research, generate data, and shape African-led best practices in alternative mental health care. Our goal is to contribute to both national and global conversations on safe, effective, and culturally relevant healing.

๐Ÿ”น Therapeutic Program Design

In the long run, we aim to develope a phased treatment model using Ibogaine, Psilocybin, and Medical Marijuana โ€” grounded in harm reduction, full medical oversight, and trauma-informed care. Our programs will be tailored to the cultural and clinical realities of Zambia and guided by international best practices, as well as building on our legal and policy work.

Our Ethical Commitment

Every step of our work โ€” from advocacy and research to treatment planning โ€” is guided by a deep commitment to ethics, safety, and dignity.

We prioritize harm reduction, informed consent, and trauma-sensitive care. Our approach integrates spiritual and emotional support from the beginning, recognizing that true healing involves the whole person. We also work closely with traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and civil society to ensure our work is culturally aligned, locally owned, and deeply trusted.

Whether we are engaging with policymakers, conducting research, or preparing for future clinical care, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and respect โ€” believing that every life restored reflects Godโ€™s redemptive purpose.
