Safeguarding and Protection

The Maccabeus Foundation is committed to safeguarding the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of every person we engage with. This commitment applies across all our work, including mental health support, research, partnerships, and community engagement.

Safeguarding is central to our mission and reflects our belief that care must always be ethical, respectful, and rooted in compassion.

Our Commitment

We are committed to:

  • Protecting vulnerable adults and young people from harm, abuse, exploitation, or neglect
  • Maintaining safe environments, both physical and digital
  • Upholding dignity, confidentiality, and informed consent in all interactions
  • Acting with integrity, accountability, and transparency
  • Ensuring that power is never misused in relationships of care, support, or influence

We maintain zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, exploitation, or misconduct of any kind.

Who This Applies To

Our safeguarding standards apply to:

  • Trustees and leadership
  • Staff and volunteers
  • Consultants and contractors
  • Partner organisations and representatives

All individuals working with or on behalf of Maccabeus are required to uphold our safeguarding principles and complete appropriate training where relevant.

Safe Practice & Accountability

We ensure safeguarding through:

  • Careful vetting and selection of staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Clear codes of conduct and ethical standards
  • Strong data protection and confidentiality safeguards
  • Ongoing training, supervision, and oversight
  • Clear reporting and whistleblowing mechanisms

Any safeguarding concerns are taken seriously and addressed promptly, fairly, and responsibly.

Reporting Concerns

We encourage anyone — including staff, partners, beneficiaries, or members of the public — to report safeguarding concerns, ethical breaches, or misconduct.

Reports can be made confidentially and without fear of retaliation. Where necessary, concerns may be escalated to appropriate authorities in line with legal and safeguarding obligations.

Continuous Review

Our safeguarding policies and practices are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain effective, lawful, and aligned with best practice. We are committed to continuous learning and improvement in how we protect those we serve.
