The Maccabeus Foundation is committed to strong governance, ethical leadership, and responsible stewardship in all areas of our work. Our governance framework exists to protect the dignity of those we serve, ensure accountability in decision-making, and uphold the trust placed in us by partners, donors, and the wider public.

Governance at Maccabeus is provided through our leadership and advisors, supported by clear policies, planning documents, and accountability mechanisms that guide how we operate, grow, and make decisions. This structure is designed to be proportionate, transparent, and appropriate to the sensitive nature of mental health and wellbeing work.

Safeguarding, Ethics, and Protection

Safeguarding is central to our governance approach. We maintain a comprehensive Safeguarding & Protection framework that sets out how we prevent harm, protect vulnerable people, and respond to concerns. This is supported by our Code of Ethics, Data Protection and Privacy, and Whistleblowing policies, which together establish clear expectations for conduct, confidentiality, and accountability across all roles and partnerships.

Strategy, Financial Stewardship, and People

Our work is guided by a long-term Strategic Plan, which sets out our vision, priorities, and approach to sustainable impact. Financial responsibility is governed by our Financial Management and Accountability policies, ensuring that resources are managed carefully, transparently, and in line with our values. Our Human Resources and People policies provide a framework for fair, respectful, and supportive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and collaborators.

Review and Accountability

Our governance documents and practices are reviewed regularly and strengthened as the Foundation develops, reflecting learning, experience, and evolving best practice. Through this approach, we seek to build an organisation that is well-governed, trustworthy, and worthy of confidence — not only in what we aim to achieve, but in how we go about it.
